Everyone online seems obsessed with triggers right now.

Curiosity.
Scarcity.
Pattern interruption.
Urgency.

And listen, I get it.

Triggers matter.

They absolutely can make someone stop scrolling.

But here’s what a lot of people are missing:

Attention does not automatically equal loyalty.

You can get clicks.
You can get views.
You can even get viral.

And still not build trust.

Because while triggers may get someone to notice you…

Identity is what makes them stay.

Let’s simplify this.

Triggers say:

“Hey, look at this.”

Identity says:

“Oh damn… this is for me.”

That second one?

That’s where deeper marketing lives.

Because people are not just engaging with content because it’s catchy.

They’re engaging because something inside that content reflects:

  • who they are
  • what they fear
  • what they want
  • what they’re trying to become

This is why some creators get attention…

…and others build actual movements.

This is where most content falls apart.

A lot of people are creating posts that are technically “good”…

But they’re too broad.

Too generic.

Too “for everyone.”

It often lands deeply with no one.

Example:

Saying:

“Here are social media tips.”

Fine.

But saying:

“If you’re an overwhelmed business owner tired of posting constantly without results…”

Now we’ve got something.

Because one gives information.

The other creates recognition.

Recognition builds trust faster than random visibility.

When someone feels like:

“This person actually gets me…”

Your content stops feeling like noise.

belonging

That shift matters.

A lot.

Here’s the truth most marketers skip:

People do not just buy products.

They often buy:

understanding

safety

identity alignment

They buy from people who make them feel:

seen

understood

capable

clear

So yes… use triggers.

Use curiosity.

Use pattern interruption.

Use emotional resonance.

But don’t stop there.

Because if your content only gets attention without building identity…

You may create traffic…

But not trust.

Real authority happens when your content answers:

Who is this for?

What are they feeling right now?

What identity are they operating from?

What do they need to believe next?

This is where content shifts from:

“Look at me.”

To:

“I see you.”

And trust me…

That second one scales harder.

Final Thought

The internet is loud.

Triggers can absolutely get attention.

But identity?

Identity is what creates loyalty.

So before you ask:

“How do I get more views?”

Ask:

“Does my audience actually feel recognized here?”

Because visibility gets you noticed.

Identity gets you remembered.
